IMAGE GUIDED SURGERY
What is Image Guided Surgery?
Pittsford Oral, Facial & Implant Surgery is the first practice in western New York to use X-GUIDE dynamic, imaged guided technology for dental implant surgery. This revolutionary technology provides real-time, turn-by-turn guidance for less invasive surgery and more accurate placement of dental implants. It is the newest and most advanced system used for placement of dental implants.
Image guided surgery starts with 3-D Imaging. Visualizing your jaw in three dimensions allows us to identify the relationship between important anatomical structures and nearly eliminates the uncertainty that is often encountered with traditional 2-D imaging. Virtual surgical planning software is then used to create a 3-dimensional digital treatment plan that is reviewed with your dentist and used to show you what you can expect everything will look like from start-to-finish. This allows you to see the images in an understandable way so that you can make educated decisions about your treatment plan.
The X-Guide surgical navigation system is used to seamlessly transfer your digital treatment plan into your mouth. It is essentially an in-office image-guided GPS system that uses cameras to continuously track and guide every motion during your procedure. This computer guidance results in highly accurate and precise placement of dental implants. Implant surgery is now more predictable and less invasive with fewer complications and faster recovery. A recent study published in October 2016 in the Journal of Oral Implantology found that the accuracy of X-Guide navigation was 11 times better than freehand implant placement.
This same type of technology has been available and in use for many years by neurosurgeons to remove brain tumors. X-GUIDE was FDA approved in October 2015 for placement of dental implants and it is now at the cutting-edge of digital implant technology.
